Nollywood actress and media personality Doris Ogala has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.
Ogala secured the party’s ticket during the AAC governorship primary held ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning herself as one of the contenders seeking to take over the leadership of the state from incumbent Governor Alex Otti.
Speaking after her emergence, the actress reportedly expressed confidence in her ability to challenge the current administration and vowed to unseat Governor Otti at the polls in 2027. Her emergence has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with supporters celebrating her entry into mainstream politics while others questioned the AAC’s chances in the forthcoming election.
Ogala’s political ambition comes months after she publicly criticized Governor Otti’s administration, particularly on issues relating to infrastructure development and governance in the state. Her latest move signals a significant transition from entertainment to active politics as preparations for the 2027 election season begin to gather momentum.
Governor Alex Otti, who was elected governor of Abia State in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, is expected to seek re-election if he secures his party’s nomination. Political observers believe the race could attract several prominent contenders as political parties intensify preparations for the next electoral cycle.
With the 2027 governorship election still months away, Ogala’s emergence has already generated considerable public attention, setting the stage for what could become one of the most talked-about political contests in Abia State.
