Wife Of the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief (Mrs) Uzoamaka Mary Maudline Nwifuru, has provided succour for a 'distressed teenage girl,' name withheld, who was impregnated and abandoned by a 'hit and run irresponsible man'.
Mrs Nwifuru, who reiterated her commitment to the welfare of the girlchild, however condemned the gender-based violence(GBV) experienced in our society today in all ramifications
The 14-year-old girl, who hails from Agalagu Amagu in Ikwo LGA, narrated her ordeal in tears explaining it has never been her intention to be in this condition now.
The Governor's wife, represented by the Chairperson, Ikwo Local Government Area, Mrs Uzoamaka Sunday Nwankwo, said that Her Excellency always frowns at such ugly incident caused by men who take undue advantage of our innocent teenage girls.
She advised parents to always stay close to their children, especially the girls who are always very susceptible to abuses. She assured that she will not allow the unfortunate incident to truncate the beautiful destiny of the young girl.
She equally said 'Her Excellency directed that arrangements be put in place to carter for the ante-natal needs of the unfortunate young girl'. She further assured that after the girl was delivered of the baby, she would return to school to pursue her chosen career.
The materials given to the young girl included foodstuffs, some pieces of rappers, medicaments and cash for her upkeep.
The Head of Department Social Welfare Ministry of Women's Affairs, Barr. Virginia Ngozi Nweze, who represented the Commissioner for Women's Affiars, condemned the illicit act and advised mothers to always be at alert to ensure their daughters are not molested.
In a similar vain, she added that the commitment of the mother of the state regarding Gender- Based Voilence is still on course, hence anyone caught molesting underaged girl will face the full wrath of the law.
The mother of the victim, who was full of appreciation, thanked the wife of the Governor for her efforts at giving hope to her daughter and prayed God to continue to bless her in all their endeavours.
