There was drama in Ebonyi State on Tuesday as two factions of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced different winners in separate presidential primary exercises held across the state.
In one factional exercise, former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, was declared winner after polling 6,050 votes to defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Mohammed Hayatu Deen. Party officials said the primary was conducted peacefully across the state’s wards.
However, hours later, another faction of the party announced a different outcome, declaring Atiku Abubakar as the winner of its own parallel primary election. According to the faction, Atiku secured 15,300 votes, while Amaechi and Hayatu Deen scored 2,200 and 200 votes respectively.
The conflicting declarations have further exposed the growing crisis within the ADC in Ebonyi State, leaving party members and political observers confused over the authentic result of the exercise.
In what many Nigerians have described humorously as a “peace arrangement,” both Amaechi and Atiku have now unofficially emerged winners in Ebonyi State — a development that has sparked reactions across social media and political circles.
