An unorganized system will always punish the innocent and protect the offenders.
The Anambra State Government said it set up a “money sign-in/sign-out” system with a payment code to track absenteeism. But what we see on the ground is different:
The system is taking money every month from those who actually come to work, while those who don’t show up still receive full salary.
If that’s the case, what is the point of signing attendance every day?
It looks deliberate. The people handling the salary deductions seem to be targeting the workers who are present.
Let’s talk reality:
1. *Transportation*: Do you know how much civil servants spend daily just to get to work? That money comes straight from their salary.
2. *Rent*: House rent in Anambra is not small. After transport and deductions, is there anything left?
3. *Healthcare*: No civil servant’s salary can comfortably cover healthcare costs today.
So why take from the little you’re already paying them?
After they spend on transport to come to work every day, can they still pay rent and take care of their health with what’s left?
If you’re the government, can you survive on what you’re paying these workers?
If not, why keep deducting from their small pay?
This error needs to be fixed immediately. Fix the system so it holds absentees accountable, not the workers who show up daily and keep the state running.
