The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide has strongly condemned threats issued against Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, by an individual who appeared in a viral video identifying himself as “Danbature” and claiming to be a leader of Arewa youths.
The reaction follows a widely circulated video on social media in which the individual issued threats against Ejimakor over his comments relating to former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon’s recent book presentation and his remarks on the Nigerian Civil War, the Aburi Accord, and General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.
Ejimakor had criticized parts of Gowon’s narrative, sparking reactions online and renewed debate on the historical interpretation of the 1967–1970 civil war.
In a press statement issued on 31st March 2026, the OYC described the threats as reckless and dangerous, warning against any attempt to intimidate individuals exercising their right to free speech and historical interpretation.
The group also questioned the authenticity of the individual in the viral video, noting that his manner of communication and lack of formal representation raises doubts about whether he speaks for any recognized Arewa youth organization.
According to the statement signed by Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, National President-General of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, the use of informal video messages to issue threats was described as uncharacteristic of legitimate youth leadership structures, which typically communicate through formal press statements.
The OYC further warned against any attempt to harm or harass Barrister Ejimakor, insisting that such actions would be firmly resisted by Igbo youths worldwide.
