The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Newton Isokpehi, following the circulation of a viral video in which the officer allegedly threatened to kill anyone seen filming him.
The disturbing video, which sparked outrage on social media, showed the officer warning civilians against recording his activities while issuing threats that many Nigerians described as unprofessional and dangerous.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Police Command said the officer has been taken into custody and subjected to disciplinary procedures in line with police regulations.
According to the Command, the action became necessary after the video generated widespread public concern and drew condemnation from citizens and human rights advocates.
Police authorities assured members of the public that the Force does not condone misconduct, abuse of power, or threats against civilians by any officer, stressing that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
The Command also urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies while assuring that justice and accountability would prevail.
