The Abia State Government has intensified work on the construction of a massive central bus terminal in Osisioma, Enyimba City, as part of efforts to modernise transportation and improve traffic management in Aba.
The project, which is described as a replica of the modern bus terminal in Umuahia, but significantly larger and more advanced in design and facilities.
is progressing rapidly and is expected to serve as a major intermodal transport hub upon completion.
According to reports, all major motor parks currently operating around Milverton in Aba will be relocated to the new terminal to help decongest the city and create a more organised transport system.
Aba remains one of the busiest commercial and transport centres East of the Niger, receiving heavy vehicular traffic from the Northern and Western regions of the country, with many vehicles connecting passengers and goods to states across the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones.
The ongoing bus terminal project is also designed to support the state government’s expanding fleet of electric buses as part of efforts to promote a modern and environmentally friendly transportation system in Abia State.
