The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial zone in the Upper Legislative Chambers of the National Assembly and the Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has raised a motion of urgent public importance on the need for the Federal Government to urgently construct the roads linking Ebonyi state to Benue state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator Nwebonyi disclosed this on Wednesday at the Senate Plenary Federal Capital Territory, Abuja
According to Federal Lawmaker, while presenting his speech, he argued that Benue state is the shortest link from Ebonyi state to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and other geopolitical zones in the country. He equally averred that the two states share remarkable things in common as the food basket of the nation.
He said:
“ Connecting Benue and Ebonyi states will boost not only the economy of the two states but Nigeria at large. Besides, Benue is the shortest gateway from Ebonyi state and South East to other geopolitical zones in the country.
"Our people are agrarian who produce rice, yam, garri etc in large quantities. They find it extremely difficult to convey the goods to the market for sale. This has inhibited the wheel of progress in the affected communities.
Senator Nwebonyi , therefore, urged hallowed Chamber to interface with the Federal Government and the Federal Ministry of Works to immediately commence the construction and rehabilitation of some sections of the road linking the two sister-states.
It will be Recall that Distinguished Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi had earlier sponsored a remarkable motion kicking against the inexorable extortions and harassment of road users by security agencies especially the Nigerian Police Force. He prayed the House to mandate the Inspector General of Police to work assiduously towards nipping such unwholesome activities on the bud.

Media aide noted that barely one Month after the official inauguration of Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Barrister Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has sponsored two motions that have direct bearing on the welfare of the people.
"This is indeed heartwarming and holds greater promises for effective representation of the good people of Ebonyi North Senatorial district.
"The liberation of Ebonyi North Senatorial District has come and I urge the constituents to always remember the Federal Lawmaker in their prayers to fully actualize his vision and mission in the 10th National Assembly" media aide said.
