The First Lady of Ebonyi State Chief (Mrs) Mary Uzomaka Nwifuru has received the delegation from the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICELF) , while also pledged her adminstration readiness to eradicate the practice of female genital mutilation FGM in the State.
Mrs Nwifuru said this when delegates from (UNICELF) paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Abakaliki on Thursday
The Governor's wife who commended the team for the visit, described their visit as very timely. She said that she would do everything within her reach towards curtailing the ugly menace in the State.
She maintained that her office would partner with UNICELF and work together with the State Ministry of health and women affairs to fight the menace to the stand still.
Earlier in his remarks, the Country's officer of UNICELF Abuja office Mr Godwin Odoh said they were in her office to seek partnership with the State Government to ensure the issue of child protection is implemented in its fullest time.
He added that UNICELF has been working for promotion, protection and well the being of children in the State and expressed their avowed commitment towards strengthening the existing Community base child protection across the State.
However, he stressed the need to appoint auxiliary social workers that would inculcate rural women the need to stop FGM practices in their respective communities so as to promote the wellbeing of children in Ebonyi State.
