The Anambra State Ministry of Health has certified IHM Rex Universorum Hospital in Mmiata Anam fit for operation after swiftly responding to distress messages from members of the public concerning the operational status of the facility.
The development followed a visit by a delegation from IHM Rex Universorum Hospital to the office of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, in Awka. The delegation was led by Sr. Dr. Ameke Maria Sapientiae.
Following the concerns raised by members of the public, the Ministry dispatched a team to inspect the hospital and ascertain its compliance with the required standards. The inspection covered the facility’s drugs, equipment and other requirements for effective healthcare delivery.
Speaking on the outcome of the inspection, Obidike said the assessment showed that the hospital had the basic facilities and equipment required for its operations, leading to its certification by the Ministry.
The Commissioner said the action was part of the government’s continued efforts to ensure that health facilities operating in Anambra comply with established standards and provide safe and quality healthcare services to residents.
He stressed that having a hospital in place was not enough, noting that healthcare facilities must have the necessary equipment, qualified personnel and a conducive environment to provide effective medical services. He added that regular supervision was essential to ensure continued compliance with government standards.
Obidike urged members of the public to verify the status of health facilities before seeking treatment and to report suspected illegal or unsafe practices to the appropriate authorities.
He said members of the public did not need to rely solely on social media platforms to report irregularities in health facilities, explaining that the government had established a direct reporting mechanism through accredited facilities.
According to him, every accredited health facility is expected to prominently display a verified government accreditation sticker bearing an official telephone number.
He urged members of the public who notice any irregularity in a health facility to call the number displayed on the sticker for appropriate government intervention.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Ministry would continue to inspect and supervise health facilities across the state to ensure compliance with required standards. He warned that facilities operating without the necessary accreditation or failing to meet government requirements would face appropriate sanctions, including possible closure.
