NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has filed a defamation suit against his former ally, Kenneth Okonkwo, demanding ₦5 billion in damages and a public apology over false statements made against him.
Okonkwo, a lawyer and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, was accused of making damaging allegations on television, including claims that Obi and some political figures demanded ₦10 million from NDC House of Representatives aspirants for party tickets.
Obi’s legal team described the comments as false, malicious, and damaging to his reputation, saying they were widely circulated and intended to tarnish his image.
The suit seeks a full retraction, public apology across media platforms, a written undertaking to desist from further statements, and ₦5 billion in compensation.
