The Aku of Obeaku Kingdom, His Royal Highness Eze Ikeagwuchi Ekeke, has warned that the proposed seaport project in Abia State may face resistance from the community if the naming is not corrected to reflect their position.
The monarch insisted that the project should be officially called the Obeaku Seaport, rejecting the inclusion of “Azumini” or any other community name from Ukwa East in the proposed name of the seaport.
He stated that if the name is not revised from “Azumini Obeaku Seaport” to “Obeaku Seaport,” the community may not support or allow the project to proceed. He also added that the seaport should not be built on the Azumini Blue River area, but only on the Imo River side within Obeaku, which he claimed is closer to the Atlantic Ocean than Azumini.
“If Azumini is not removed from the proposed name of the Abia Seaport (Azumini Obeaku Seaport) and changed to Obeaku Seaport, we will not allow the seaport to be built,” Eze Ekeke said.
