A 13-year-old boy, Ifeanyi, has reportedly lost his life after being struck by lightning in Imo State during a school football activity on Saturday.
According to reports, the pupils were playing on the school field when rain suddenly began, forcing everyone to rush for shelter. Unfortunately, Ifeanyi was said to have been unable to get out of the open field in time before the lightning struck.
In a shocking account, his father allegedly said he felt a sudden electric sensation in his body while at work, shortly before receiving a phone call informing him of the incident. He was told that his son had been struck by lightning and severely injured.
The boy was reportedly rushed to a hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead, with injuries said to have affected his body severely.
Lightning is known to carry extremely powerful electrical energy, making outdoor activities during storms highly dangerous.
The tragic incident has left the community in deep mourning.
