The internal crisis rocking the Labour Party has taken a new twist as the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, resurfaced after months of silence to declare that Alex Otti is not the Labour Party governorship candidate for Abia State.
Speaking during the presentation of the party’s governorship nomination form to Ceekay Igara, Abure stated that any vote cast for the Labour Party in Abia State would be for Igara and not Governor Otti.
The development has sparked reactions among political observers and supporters of Governor Otti, who believe the move is part of ongoing political efforts to destabilize his administration despite his growing popularity among Abia residents.
Supporters of the governor argue that Otti’s administration has continued to receive praise for infrastructural development, improved governance, and reforms across the state. They allege that opposition forces, particularly members of the All Progressives Congress, are uncomfortable with the governor’s performance and increasing public acceptance.
According to political analysts, the latest statement by Abure may further deepen the leadership crisis within the Labour Party ahead of future political contests in the state.
As reactions continue to trail the announcement, many residents of Abia State are watching closely to see how the political drama unfolds in the coming weeks.
