Actress Mercy Johnson is trending online after launching a ₦25,000 puberty kit, with many Nigerians debating whether menstrual hygiene products should be considered luxury items or value-based wellness packages.
Mercy Johnson is getting backlash for launching a puberty kit for 25k. Some many vvomen including men are critici$ing the price of the period kit.
Some said that period isn't luxury, why make it too expensive for the average girl to afford? A lady on X narrated how difficult it was for her to afford #250 pad during her NYSC year that she used cloths most of the time.
Daniel Regha said that Mercy Johnson should make it free for young girls.
For context, the puberty kit contained these:
1. A book about puberty (written by her)
2. A pack of plant-based wipes
3. A pack of menstrual pants
4. 3 boxes of different pad variants (both adult women and little girls can use)
5. A pack of panty liners
6. A few pieces of tr@$h bags to dispose used pads
7. A purse to hold your pads, wipes, etc.
......for 25k !
I see the intention behind this product, it's innovative to say the least and when compared to other brands with same ideas, it's more affordable.
So, I don't understand the uproar online. People are acting like her products stopped them from buying the #250 3 in 1 besense and softcare pads. She has her target market, people who will pay for the value, it's clearly not for everyone and that's okay.
Airplanes have economy, business and first class for different people, it would be in$ane to criticise an airline for making their first class most expensive when you have room for economy.
........
I thought all Nigerian vvomen are billionaires because the way they @ttack br0ke men, you'd not expect them to cry that 25k for hygiene is expensive?
Including the ones who claim on every interview that they shower with table water, spend 500k on their tissue, 2 million on breakfast so any man ready to date them should be ready to give her ₦500 million monthly.
Is this how you people intend to decenter men when you lament about 25k on hygiene?
Or is the real pr0blem the fact that Mercy Johnson launched this product as a married vvoman? If she were one of your street Queens, you all will claim that she charged less for the value.
I love that she keeps elevating, rebranding and releasing products as a married vvoman because the society has convinced vvomen that marriage dims their light.
It's just pure hayte and envy, in my opinion, leave the ₦25k own, keep using your cloths, internet billionaires.
