Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has officially announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries in Rivers State ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a press statement released on May 20, 2026, Fubara said his decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and associates. He stated that the peace, stability, and unity of Rivers State must come before personal ambition.
The governor acknowledged the sacrifices made by his supporters and admitted that the political journey came with “immense pressures and difficult choices.” However, he maintained that stepping aside was an act of conviction and sacrifice, not weakness or fear.
Fubara also pledged his support for whoever emerges as the APC candidate, while thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership for their encouragement and support throughout the process.
According to him, Rivers State remains bigger than any individual, and he remains committed to serving the people of the state till the end of his tenure.
