Veteran Nollywood actor Kevin Ikeduba has sparked conversations online after opening up about his struggles in the Nigerian film industry and his decision to seek a better life abroad.
In a recent statement, Ikeduba revealed that despite spending over 25 years in Nollywood, the industry has not rewarded him in the way many people assume. According to him, the financial reality behind the fame is far from glamorous.
I’ve spent over 25 years in Nollywood, but the reality is, it hasn’t rewarded me the way people assume. I still can’t afford the kind of life I want,” he said.
The actor went on to announce his decision to step away from acting and permanently relocate to the United States. He disclosed that he is exploring new opportunities that could offer him financial stability and a better quality of life.
“If everything works out, I might even join the army there or find a solid job to build a better life,” Ikeduba added.
His revelation highlights the growing trend of Nigerian entertainers embracing the “japa” movement—seeking greener pastures overseas due to economic challenges and limited opportunities at home.
Fans and colleagues have since reacted with mixed emotions, with some expressing support for his decision, while others lament the state of Nollywood and the broader creative industry in Nigeria.
