President Donald Trump has threatened to completely halt all trade between the United States and Spain following rising political tensions over military matters.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump criticized Spain for refusing to allow its military bases to be used in potential operations against Iran. He said the decision undermines the strategic partnership between the two nations and weakens joint security efforts.
Trump also joined the Chancellor of Germany in criticizing Spain over what he described as insufficient defense spending. He emphasized that member countries within military alliances must contribute fairly and responsibly toward collective security.
As of now, the Spanish government has not released an official statement responding to the remarks made by the U.S. President.
The growing dispute is feared to potentially strain diplomatic and commercial relations between Washington and Madrid if a swift resolution is not reached.
