Veteran journalist and former presidential aide, Dr. Reuben Abati, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of undermining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and exposing him to public ridicule through his political activities in Rivers State.
Abati made the allegation on Thursday while speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television, where he criticised Wike’s continued involvement in political matters in Rivers State despite his role in the Tinubu-led administration.
According to Abati, Wike’s claim of leading a so-called “rainbow coalition” in Rivers State is inappropriate and misleading, stressing that the FCT minister lacks the authority to interfere in the internal affairs of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He argued that Wike’s actions could create the impression of internal discord within the ruling party and portray President Tinubu as either endorsing or tolerating parallel political structures within the APC.
Abati further warned that such political posturing by a senior cabinet member risks undermining party discipline and weakening the president’s authority, especially at a time when unity within the ruling party is crucial.
The comments have since sparked reactions across political circles, with many questioning the extent to which appointed officials should engage in partisan activities at the state level.
