Ike Abonyi, a journalist and eyewitness to the meeting between Deji Adeyanju and Peter Obi, has come forward to debunk Adeyanju's claims that Obi offered him money and told him about investing in his family business using Anambra state funds.
According to Abonyi, the meeting took place in July 2022, when Adeyanju was considering running for the House of Representatives under the Labour Party. Abonyi brokered the meeting between Adeyanju and Obi, and the three of them had a frank discussion for about three hours. During the meeting, Obi shared his life story and political journey, and Adeyanju discussed his own life story, mentioning the impact of his mother on his life.
Abonyi claims that no money was offered or promised during the meeting, and Adeyanju's subsequent statements about Obi's alleged bribery attempt are false. Abonyi expressed disappointment that Adeyanju would resort to such "blackmail" and urged him to be honest and truthful, especially as a lawyer.
