Veteran Nigerian rapper and activist, Eedris Abdulkareem, has praised rapper Falz for his boldness and social consciousness in a music industry that, according to him, is increasingly focused on superficial themes.
In a recent statement, Eedris expressed admiration for Falz’s fearless approach to addressing societal issues through his music, likening him to the outspoken artistes of his own generation.
The only artiste that reminds me of the boldness of the artistes of my generation is Falz. I can boldly say he’s the only conscious artiste in this new generation of Nigerian artistes. You may have your issues with him, but you can’t deny that he's the only artiste of his generation genuinely speaking for the masses.
Eedris, known for using his music to challenge social injustice and corruption, rose to prominence in the early 2000s with politically charged songs like “Jaga Jaga”. His endorsement of Falz adds weight to the latter's growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s few socially aware voices in contemporary music.
Falz, whose real name is Folarin Falana, is not new to controversy. From his viral 2018 track “This is Nigeria” to his vocal stance during the #EndSARS protests, the rapper has consistently used his platform to call out injustice and demand accountability from the government.
This commendation from a music icon like Eedris Abdulkareem further solidifies Falz’s position as a rare voice of activism in the Nigerian music industry today.
