Her
fiancé still in a state of shock
A young lady identified as Miss Chinyere Awuda has been beaten to death at the Cosmila Hotels and Suites, Awka, Anambra State.
The
incident happened on Sunday night July 16 2023 at the hotel’s Night Club
section where some alleged Yahoo Plus Boys were spraying the birthday celebrant,
their friend, wads of money.
It was
gathered from sources at the scene of the incident that trouble began when a
friend of the celebrant accused and started beating Chinyere for picking up some money that was
being sprayed on the birthday celebrant.
“Some others
said she did not only pick money, but went for bundles of money, which another
friend of the celebrant stacked by his seat side. Waiting to spray on the birthday
celebrant,’’ a source said.
Some
sources said that she was mistaken for the wrong person, that even as much as
she (Chinyere) tried to establish her innocence that the celebrant and his friends
pounced on her. Despite efforts made by other people in the club to rescue her from
the hands of the celebrant and his friends, they continued pummeling her even
as the Hotel manager watched.
The
hotel manager allegedly asked the club’s security guards and bouncers to stand
down and instead turnoff light the lights while the Chinyere was assaulted.
Other
fun seekers at the scene said she was beaten to death, her lifeless body
dragged outside the Night Club and dumped into an abandoned swimming pool
within the hotel premises.
How
Chinyere’s journey into untimely death began
Chinyere
lived at Elite Hostel, at the UNIZIK Tempsite behind God is Good Motors with
her Abia State fiancé. Some of her co-tenants was said to have seen her that
that Sunday. That after Church service in the morning, she went to market to
get some food items. Her charming disposition never indicated that it would be her
last day on earth.
Around
8pm that Sunday 16. July 2023, she left for the birthday party at the Cosmila
Hotel and Suites with a co-tenant.
By 3am
on Monday, Chinyere’s co-tenant was said to have returned alone to their lodge
without Chinyere. Chinyere’s fiancé enquired of Chinyere from her, but the
co-tenant couldn’t give concrete answer. But later said she only saw Chinyere
been slapped and that was the only thing she knew about her.
Chinyere
fiancé and some her relatives stormed the hotel demanding for Chinyere’s
whereabout but was told by the hotel management that they should come back in
the evening. On getting back to the hotel in the evening, they demanded for the
CCTV footage but were denied access to it only to find her bloated corpse in
the abandoned swimming pool of the hotel.
According
to a source the celebrant has on his Facebook page allegedly wrote’ ‘’The
birthday was successful, some are happy, some are crying.’’
When contacted, the Anambra
State Police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and said
the birthday celebrator and his friends were already in police custody while
the case is being investigated.
Ikenga said, “Hotel Manager,
the man manning CCTV and other suspects, are in our custody in connection with
the incident, the hotel management assisted the police in arresting the
suspects and investigation is still ongoing. Further details shall be
communicated please.”
