The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barr. Mrs Felicia Nwamkpuma, has reiterated Governments readiness to bring the issue of trafficking and Gender Based Violence to the zero level in Ebonyi State.
The Commissioner stated this when a team from the USAID Momentum Country Global Leadership ( MCGL), paid her a courtesy visit in her office at block 10, Centenary City.
Barr Nwamkpuma, who appreciated and commended MCGL for their efforts towards alleviating the sufferings of women in the state, especially as it concerns GBV, assured them of the Ministry's support to ensure that their project in the state is successful.
The Commissioner also expressed her gratitude to them for setting up and equipping the GBV Safe Space for the Ministry and further assured them that the State Government under the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru, will complement their effort by ensuring that the space is working effectively.
Earlier, the USAID MCGL State team lead by Mrs Nneka Chijoke Dikeocha, who congratulated the Commissioner on her appointment, stated that MCGL which is funded by USAID and implemented by Jhpiego, has been in the State for three years and that the project goal is on addressing the drivers of GBV which includes; early adoption of family planning, early/ forced marriages etc.
She further stated that the project has two approaches including the Response and Prevention approach, while noting that the prevention approach has to do with sensitizing and creating awareness on the dangers of GBV and it's consequences.
She further noted that they are working in the 111 facilities across 11 LGAs including General Hospitals to ensure the provision of quality survivor centered GBV services.
In a vote of thanks, the Director, Child Development Department, Mr Godwin Igwe, thanked them for coming to familiarise with the new Commissioner and equally assured them of the Ministry's support to them and the Hon. Commissioner to ensure they succeed in their assignment.
The SSA on Women Mobilisation, Mrs Ikele Veronica Uzoamaka and other HOD's were present during the visit.
