Chief Magistrate Court, Nnewi, has remanded James Okoye Ebube, popularly known as Jaluo / Akachaam, for 30 days over alleged conspiracy and cybercrime.
Suit No. NMD/MSC.279/2026 was brought ex-parte by the Commissioner of Police. Police counsel, A.N. Obo Esq. of Zone 13, Ukpo, asked the court to remand Okoye at Nnewi Correctional Centre to enable investigators conclude inquiries and send the file to the Anambra Attorney-General for legal advice.
According to police affidavit deposed by ASP Tijani Attai of Zone 13, a complaint was lodged on August 19 by one Mr. Okoli Innocent.
Police allege that Okoye knowingly circulated false voice notes in multiple WhatsApp groups, including Nnewi-based platforms, accusing Mr. Okoli of being behind kidnap incidents in Nnewi and environs. The messages were described as cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying that put the complainant in fear.
Police say the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction to try cybercrime, hence the remand pending filing before a competent court.
Court documents bearing the Chief Magistrate Court Nnewi stamp of Sept 8, 2026, and certified by Okwara D.U., confirm the allegation is conspiracy and cybercrime arising from WhatsApp voice notes.
Note:The 30-day remand is for investigation. It is NOT a conviction. Okoye remains a suspect and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Okoye, also known as Ebube Anaedo, was arrested Sept 5 in Nnewi while performing what he called a ritual cleansing.
