She doubted his strict boundaries and honesty during their courtship, only to discover they were rooted in faith, eventually leading to a love story that transformed her perspective on relationships.
"When I first started dating my husband, he was like, ‘We can't have s&&x till marriage.’ I said, no problem.
Then he said, ‘Oh, you also can't come to my house because if you come to my house, we'll be alone.’ I'm like, eeh eeh, I know say this guy go dey hide something.
One time, I was supposed to come to Lagos for something, and my flight was really late. I landed, and the hotel I was supposed to stay was fully booked. So I told him to allow me stay in his house just for that night, and will go to my hotel the next day.
He said no, I should give him time to ask the Holy Spirit. I will always tell my friends, 'Forget this thing. This guy is not honest. I know what I'm saying.' That reaction came from where I was coming from.
Finally, he said to me, you can come. I've asked the Holy Spirit, and He said you can come. I said, story. Girl wey you keep for that house, you don carry her comot.
I went to the house, slept over, he slept in the sitting room while I slept in the bedroom. I was like, ‘What's all this drama this guy is doing? Don't worry, I will soon see the real you.’ It was just a pr0blem. That was part of the baggages I brought into the relationship.
His honesty was a problem for me. Also, I think the way he loved me was too much for me.
As a woman, you know how you want to be loved. For example, I love handwritten notes and I never discussed them with Shawn. But every time he sent me a gift, he would do exactly those things.
It also felt too much for me because I was coming from somewhere where it felt like we loved each other in differently. I always had to remind that person, but this person kept loving me in the exact way I wanted without reminder. I don't even know what to call it.
Then he would say, ooh, I asked the Holy Spirit, and he told me to do it this way.
Shortly before we got engaged, I told him I was done and needed a two-week break. Shawn said no. He said he had taken it to the Spirit because I wasn't speaking to him at the time.
Even though I had already gotten confirmation while I was on a three-day dry fast, I still wasn't ready..."
