A Nigerian lady has shared the terrifying experience that ended her relationship after her boyfriend allegedly woke her in the middle of the night to flee a suspected EFCC raid, forcing her to jump fences and hide inside a cemetery before trekking for hours to safety. She says the traumatic ordeal was the final straw that led to their breakup.
“So on one fateful day, imagine you are just sleeping and suddenly you heard, "Bang! Bang! Bang! Open the door! Open the door!" from your ex-boyfriend’s friend. It was on Sunday evening. The hostel was a male hostel. They are about 5 males in the hostel, and the hostel is located in the bush. I don’t know how EFCC could locate the area. I still don’t understand till today.
So his friend said he received a call from the nearest hotel that EFCC is now around the area and are arresting G-guys there, and we should hurriedly leave because they are coming over to our side too.
That’s how my ex-boyfriend rushedly tapped me on the bed to wake up ASAP. "Let’s go." I was like, "What happened? Where are we going?" He didn’t even allow me to pick my phone. I told him, "What if my parents want to call me if things eventually go wrong?" I sha wasn’t able to pick my phone.
He told me that we were going to jump over the fence, that his other friends were already there. I was like, "Haa, jump keh?" I’m the only lady, don’t forget o, and the fence is very high. It was only him and I remaining in the compound.
So he knelt and stretched out his hand for me to place my legs so he could push me up to the other side, so that his friend could grab me. We sha jumped over the fence into the next building.
I wasn’t comfortable with what I was seeing in the building. So I asked him, "Where are we, please?" Only for him to tell me we were inside a cemetery. Cemetery keh? He said it was a Muslim cemetery. He now told me, "Didn’t you know that my place is behind a cemetery?" I was like, "How nah?"
Even burial event work, I don’t take the job because I do feel somehow. I have phobia for c0rpses. That’s how I started seriously crying in the midnight. It wasn’t even the EFCC that was making me cry now, it was the cemetery because it really shocked me that I’m in the midst of corpses around 2 a.m. in the midnight. What do I want to do now? Even my mum knows I hate standing beside c0rpses.
We sha hid under one tree, still inside the cemetery. That’s how one vigilante saw us and flashed his torchlight. We knelt for him to please not expose us to the EFCC. The guys were like they don’t trust the vigilante. That’s how we started moving from one place to another.
We walked from Offa to Ajase, Kwara State, that midnight. When the day eventually broke, I quickly boarded a bus back to Ibadan because I have my own place I rented. I had just gone to greet him.
I couldn’t even sleep when I got home because of the trauma.
He was now telling me that he was sorry and that I should forgive him for what happened. Ehn, that’s what led to our breakup...” -
