Nigeria has lost a brave son, and Ndi Igbo have lost one of their finest.
Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, a senior Nigerian military intelligence officer and an Igbo Muslim from Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, was tragically killed after courageously resisting an attempted kidnapping at his residence in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, on Monday, July 27, 2026.
According to security reports, the gunmen ambushed the senior officer shortly after he arrived home. Rather than surrender to his attackers, Colonel Ude chose to fight back despite being heavily outnumbered. His courageous resistance reportedly foiled the kidnappers' attempt to take him alive.
Unable to abduct him, the attackers opened fire at close range, fatally shooting him before fleeing the scene.
The violence also left members of his household seriously injured. His wife, driver, and security guard sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude was a highly respected officer within Nigeria's military intelligence community. He was reportedly due for promotion to the rank of Brigadier General next year, a testament to his dedication, professionalism, and years of distinguished service to the nation.
In accordance with Islamic rites, he was laid to rest on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Mambilla Mosque in Abuja.
His death is a painful reminder that Ndi Igbo continue to serve Nigeria with distinction in every sphere of national life, regardless of religion or region. Colonel Ude's life also reflects the rich diversity within the Igbo nation, reminding us that the Igbo identity transcends religious differences. Whether Christian, Muslim, or traditional worshipper, every Igbo son and daughter who serves with honour deserves to be remembered.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Igbo-Eze South, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all who mourn this courageous officer. We also pray for the speedy recovery of his wife and the other victims injured during the attack.
May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and give his family the strength to bear this painful loss.
May the soul of this courageous Igbo son rest in perfect peace.
