Some won't agree, but Igbos have been ruling Rivers State since democracy returned in 1999. I always like people reading my work with open mind, and not from a prism of their own ignorance.
From Odii (Nndoni), Omehia (ikwerre), Amaechi (Ikwerre), Nwike (ikwerre), current governor Fubara (Opobo), and now recently cleared Chinda by the APC, (Ikwerre); they are all Igbos from different LGAs in Rivers State. The mentioned names above speak Igbo very well (irrespective of their dialect), and also bear Igbo names.
As I'm telling this, and it doesn't matter if you believe me or yes, O.K Chinda, is the next governor of Rivers State, and "Nothing Anybody want tell me." He will win by a landslide, and you all will remember that I so said. This is because all the Igbos of Rivers State origin, and those who are resident will vote him in.
I don't bluff, or "run my mouth," I'm telling you what I know.
Igbos make up 75% of the people in Rivers state, and its a fact. The notion of ijaw in Rivers state is a mirage. Ijaws are only found in parts of bayelsa state. For instance, Ogbia (Jonathan's place) is not Ijaw, I may say more on this another day.
The only ethnic nationality that does not have any igbo connection in Rivers state is Ogoni, and they've never ruled Rivers State, haven't become a deputy governor, Chief Judge, or any other sensitive position even though they are more educated.
The highest position that an Ogoni has attained outside the normal constituencies positions (state and federal), is Secretary to the State Government. A name will always come to mind in this respect, Kenneth Kubani. He was a super SSG.
As for Kalabari, they are mixture of Efik and Igbo who moved South wards (their original name New Calabar), and due to language derivation and mixture with ijaw speaking part of bayelsa, lost their mother tongue. Great king Amakiri of kalabari Kingdom was Igbo so are all his descendants. Eight out of ten families in present day Kalabri have Igbo roots. Ask around. Hilda Dokubo, a known Nollywood actress is from Kalabari, she speaks Igbo fluently, even though she was raised in Okrika. Her first Movie, Ugomma was an Igbo movie.
Even the father of the creek toad, sorry the creek lord, Asari Dokubo, is from Abam in present-day Abia state.
As for Okrika, they are pure Igbos who also moved, and over lost their language also due to migration and mix up. In fact till late 2000s Igbo was widely spoken in parts of Okrika. Why the Okrikans and Kalabaris today are ignorantly called ijaw is because of their proximity to the Ijaws of present day Bayelsa state, that has been trying to erase their history, because they live close to the coast.
The people of Kalabari and Okrika, were unable to protect their language unlike the upland Igbos: Ikwerre, Ogba, Etche, etc.
If I tell you that the ruling family of Saudi Arabia is of Jewish decent, will you believe me? See, before Islam ravaged today's Saudi Arabia and took over, no thanks to the one called prophet Muhamed, Saudi had Christians, Jews and those who are traditionalists but called pegans for some reasons best known to the namers.
So, when prophet Mohamed and his lieutenants struck, those who resisted were slaugh.tered, others fled, and those who stayed converted to Islam to protect their lives, loved ones, and properties.
So, the house of Saud who currently rule the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that were originally Jewish converted to Islam cos of the reason above. Before the house of Saud, the house that ruled was the house of hussein, but Saud took over, after a bloody conflict.
The country is called SAUDI Arabia, and in the flag you will find a sword, and these are for obvious reasons.
