Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has made fresh allegations involving Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, claiming that a payment of ₦110 million was made to a woman identified as Tracy Ohiri.
In a statement circulating on social media, Sowore alleged that Umahi “settled Tracy Ohiri with ₦110M and asked her to make the video,” suggesting the payment may have influenced a recent video released by Ohiri. Sowore further claimed that another individual who had demanded ₦7 million from Umahi had also been settled.
According to Sowore, there are also claims that efforts may be underway to settle cases involving missing engineers allegedly linked to the minister. He questioned why such settlements would occur if the minister were innocent.
“I also heard he settled the other classmate asking for his ₦7M, and now maybe trying to settle the missing engineers. If he’s innocent why is he settling,” Sowore said.
Sowore added that his earlier support for Tracy Ohiri was based on what he described as her vulnerability. However, he suggested that accepting money could also be a reflection of that vulnerability.
He also raised questions about the source of the alleged ₦110 million payment, noting that the annual earnings of a Nigerian minister are reportedly less than ₦25 million.
“Umahi earns less than ₦25M annually as Minister, where did he get ₦110M to settle one person?” Sowore asked, while further alleging that public funds might be used to pay off accusers instead of addressing the allegations.
As of the time of this report, Dave Umahi has not publicly responded to the claims made by Omoyele Sowore, and the allegations remain unverified.
Observers say the development has sparked debate online, with calls from some quarters for transparency and proper investigation into the claims.
More updates are expected as the story develops.
