Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that Russia will do everything possible to ensure that any military operation against Iran does not succeed.
Lavrov described Iran as a close friend of Russia and emphasized that countries facing attacks from the United States and Israel are considered strategic partners of Russia. He added that Russia will continue to cooperate with other members of the international community seeking peace, including the United Nations Security Council and the UN General Assembly, to create conditions that would make such an operation impossible.
Lavrov also noted that one of the goals of a potential operation against Iran is to create divisions among Middle Eastern countries, particularly between the Gulf states, Iran, and its Arab neighbors, despite recent efforts to improve relations in the region.
He further warned that the current situation in the Middle East, arising from U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, could have serious global consequences, including undermining international stability and affecting the global economy.
On another note, Lavrov claimed that the NATO military alliance is beginning to involve itself in the conflict against Iran, drawing parallels with NATO’s engagement in the war in Ukraine. He also criticized remarks by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who stated that the alliance is ready to invoke the collective defense clause to support a U.S. operation against Iran.
