The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched a full investigation into the death of Esther Akwaji, a 27-year-old woman who was earlier reported missing in Abuja.
According to verified police accounts and media reports, Esther left her family home on January 21, telling relatives she was going to a bank in the Dei-Dei area of the FCT.
She, however, failed to return home, raising concern among family members.
Hours later, a man who identified himself as her boyfriend reportedly contacted her family using her phone, claiming Esther had suddenly fallen ill after they ate together.
He said she began vomiting and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed she was dead on arrival.
Police sources say the man left the hospital shortly after reporting the incident and has not been seen since, prompting an active manhunt.
His identity is yet to be fully established.
The FCT Police Command confirmed that Esther’s body has been deposited at the Kubwa General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Police authorities say investigations are ongoing and assured the public that anyone found responsible will be brought to justice.
The case has sparked public concern, with calls for justice and improved safety for young women across the FCT
