It seems like no one is ever truly safe from online in-laws! Nollywood veteran Rita Dominic recently made a simple yet powerful post, saying:
“It’s not all about getting married early, but it’s about getting married to the right person.”
Now, for most people, this is just common sense, marriage is about quality, not speed. But trust social media judges to turn everything into a debate! Instead of agreeing or moving on, one netizen decided to drop an insensitive comment that says:
“No child since 2022… consequence of late marriage.”
Seriously?! How do people wake up and decide that a woman’s worth is measured by how quickly she gets married or has children?
And this is exactly why the internet remains undefeated! If you’re single, they’ll ask why. If you get married, they’ll question your choice. If you have kids, they’ll say you’re showing them off too much. If you don’t, they’ll start throwing ridiculous assumptions.
The double standards are exhausting! Rita Dominic is living her life on her own terms, married to the right person at her own pace, and yet people still feel the need to drag her? If she had rushed into a toxic marriage just to satisfy society, the same people would have mocked her if it failed.
But let’s talk, should women rush into marriage just for the sake of having kids, even if they aren’t sure it’s the right person? Or should older women remain single rather than settle for an unhappy marriage? Let’s discuss!
