In the vibrant landscape of Awka South Local Government (LG), Anambra State, Nigeria, a year of relentless dedication, visionary leadership, and transformative action has unfolded under my stewardship as the Transition Committee (TC) Chairman. This is a testament to the remarkable strides made within the span of a single year, shedding light on a comprehensive scorecard that highlights the tangible and positive changes brought about by our administration.
This past year has seen remarkable achievements and positive changes that have redefined our local landscape. From implementing transformative policies to initiating development projects, I have displayed immense dedication to the mandate of Mr. Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo to make Anambra and Awka South more peaceful, clean, healthy and liveable homeland.
With a clear focus on community development and welfare, I embarked on a journey to transform our city into a more vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable place to live. Thus improving the lives of our people.
INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT:
We placed significant emphasis on infrastructure development, recognizing its vital role in fostering economic growth and improving living standards.
Over the past year, we have undertaken numerous road palliatives and rehabilitation projects, rejuvenating connectivity and enhancing transportation networks in some quarters of the Local government. This has not only alleviated travel woes but also bolstered trade and commerce, driving economic development.
Some of the places that witnessed this road palliative are:
1. Ezimezi village Road, Amawbia.
2. Isiagu - Ezinator road
3. Isiagu- Umuawulu road.
We also embarked on repainting of the road median along Amawbia bypass to increase the aesthetics of the city
THE BARRICADE OF EKE AWKA MARKET WITH A PERIMETER FENCE.
This is a capital intense project completed in collaboration with Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA). Our aim was to control traffic and maintain sanity in the area. Today the market enjoyed some kind of free movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
HEALTHCARE REFORMS:
We have demonstrated a commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services for ndị Awka South. Notable achievements include the refurbishment and equipping of certain EYECARE HEALTH FACILITY AT NISE COMMUNITY. This initiative has significantly improved healthcare delivery in the area.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND TRANSPARENCY
A hallmark of the My administration has been my commitment to community engagement and transparency. Regular town hall meetings were convened to foster open dialogues between local government officials and the Market leaders and shop owners. This approach not only ensured that the aspirations and concerns of the people were heard but also paved the way for collaborative decision-making. We upheld transparent governance practices, allowing residents to track the progress of various projects and hold the administration accountable.
SECURITY
We showed our commitment to tackle insecurity in Awka South and with the help of Anambra state government under the leadership of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, we instituted a fully funded and equipped 40 man gallant security personnel who are committed to ensure peace.
POWERING PROGRESS: INSTALLATION OF SOLAR ENERGY AT THE COUNCIL HQ
At the heart of our commitment to sustainability and progress was the installation of solar power at the Council Headquarters. This forward-thinking initiative not only reduced the environmental footprint but also ensured a stable and reliable source of energy for administrative operations. By harnessing the power of the sun, we have set an example for cleaner and more efficient energy usage, contributing to a greener future for Awka South LG.
ENHANCING FACILITIES: RENOVATION OF CONVENIENCE FACILITIES
Renovation of convenience facilities in Awka South council headquarters was a tangible step towards improving the quality of life for our staff. We believe that access to clean and functional conveniences is a fundamental right. By upgrading these facilities, we ensured that the basic needs of the staff were met with dignity and respect.
EMPOWERING THE WORKFORCE: CONSTRUCTION OF WORKERS CANTEEN
Recognizing the importance of a well-nourished workforce, we constructed a state-of-the-art Workers Canteen at the Council Headquarters. This facility provides a comfortable and hygienic space for employees to refuel, fostering a healthier and more productive work environment. Our commitment to the well-being of the workforce reflects our belief that a motivated team is vital to driving positive change.
ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER: INSTALLATION OF TAP WATER AT THE COUNCIL HQ
Water is life, and it is our responsibility to ensure access to this vital resource. The installation of tap water at the Council Headquarters not only provided a convenient source of clean water for employees but also underscored our commitment to basic infrastructure development. This initiative aligned with our vision of a community where essential services are readily available to all.
ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANCEMENT:- Cleaning Up and Revitalizing: Evacuation of Amawbia Refuse Dump, disilting gutters and Clearing Bushes
Acknowledging the importance of clean and healthy environment in stimulating economic growth and reducing ill-health and disease, Hon have a prioritized focus on the sector.
One of our key achievements was the successful evacuation of a massive dump at Ngene Amawbia - Enugwu-Agidi Road, a project that resonated with our vision for a cleaner and healthier community. Beyond this, we embarked on an ambitious effort to clear overgrown bushes in the vicinity, transforming neglected spaces into safe and inviting environments for residents. These actions not only improved the aesthetic appeal but also created spaces for potential development and community gatherings.
The nooks and crannies of the Local government have witnessed massive boost in maintainance of clean and healthy environment through daily and intensive clearing of thick buses and disposal of littered waste. This has without doubt increased the healthy state of living within the local government. I cannot forget to mention the disilting programme carried out in strategic area of the local government.
As we celebrates one year in office, it is evident that significant strides have been made in various sectors. From infrastructure development to healthcare advancements, we have implemented commendable initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of ndị Awka South.
By prioritizing the well-being and progress of the people, My administration has laid a strong foundation for continued growth and development. As we look forward to the future, it is inspiring to see the transformative change agenda of Mr. Governor being implemented, and we remain hopeful for even greater achievements in the years to come.
