Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has congratulated Ebonyi workers in the state, while pledged to continue prioritizing the welfare of Ebonyi workers until his administration winds up on May 29, 2023.
Governor Umahi made this known Through his Deputy Governor Barr. Kelechi Igwe , on Monday at the occasion of the 2023 workers day celebration in Abakaliki Township Stadium.
He said;
"As part of efforts in fulfilling our own part of the bargain, we have remained resolute in addressing your welfare needs and will continue to do so until we anchor the ship on May 29, 2023.
"Recall that our administration was the first to implement the new minimum wage and has continued to make regular payment of your salaries and other emoluments a priority.
"Just recently, we approved the payment of outstanding pension and gratuities owed retirees from the creation of the State to date.
Umahi also said , he approved exit package of #10,000 to all workers of the state and local government area which shall be added in their May salary and paid to them
"I approved ₦300,000,000.00 intervention fund to EBSU to further assist them in their payment of salaries while David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital and the University shall get ₦100,000,000.00 each to help them continue their infrastructure from the point where we had stopped due to no money."
Governor Umahi , therefore paid glowing tributes to the workforce of the State for their contributions and sacrifices to the development of the State.
He thanked the Ebonyi workers for their partnership, love, prayers and co-operation through eight years of his service in the state.
"My dear good workers of Ebonyi State, happy workers' day to you all.
"This year's workers day for us as Government is very significant for so many reasons.
"There is no doubt I stepped on toes and offended some. It was never intentional it was the best I knew and for the good of our people, please forgive.
"We have every reason to commend you highly for your numerous sacrifices which has paid off in our collective accomplishments as a Government and as a people."
Earlier, in a separate speech, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) State Chairman Prof Oguguo Egwu and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman Igboji Chidi , welcomed the workers from both public and private sectors for gathered to mark another year of workers day , they, therefore, thanked Ebonyi state Governor Umahi for accepting to better welfare of workers ,and for giant stride in infrastructure development in the state .
while urging the Governor to liaison with the successor to look into enhancing the welfare packages of Ebonyi workers and to engaged more teachers in public primary and secondary school as well as engaging of more doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in the state.
